Challah for Parashat Mishpatim
An eye for an eye.
Every week, Julie Seltzer, artist and Torah scribe, bakes a challah depicting an aspect of the week's Torah portion.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot (Exodus 21:24).
עַיִן תַּחַת עַיִן שֵׁן תַּחַת שֵׁן יָד תַּחַת יָד רֶגֶל תַּחַת רָגֶל

The Hebrew literally reads: "Eye UNDER eye, tooth UNDER tooth," etc. That's why the challahs are on top of each other. It is literally an eye under an eye.
