Rabbi Shmuel Berenbaum, the head of the Mir Yeshiva in Brooklyn, passed away yesterday at the age of 86.

Rav Berenbaum was a student at the original Mir Yeshiva in Poland, which famously uprooted itself to Lithuania, Japan, and finally Shanghai, during WWII.
