Let it not be said that the Jews of the world have neglected the Internet as a way of spreading knowledge. Whether it’s a Zagat’s guide to synagogues or an online Jewish encyclopedia of, well, basically everything, Jews are pretty into this odd combination of navel-gazing and information proliferation.
Now, there’s an official Facebook group for mikvehs, the Jewish ritual bath. Not that there isn’t already a huge directory of mikvehs online, but the Mikvehs of the World group isn’t after that — they want photos and stories of cool mikvehs.
My two favorite mikveh stories are probably the Maui Mikveh — which was built because, after the rabbi and rebbetzin got married and moved straight there, he said, “We could just run down naked to the ocean whenever we need a mikveh!” and she was like, “Uh, no.”
And then, of course, the famous mikveh episode, known for of the YouTube series Sexy Beijing:
mikveh
Pronounced: MICK-vuh, or mick-VAH, Alternate Spelling: mikvah, Origin: Hebrew, Jewish ritual bath.
