Sorry, that title is a little misleading. What I really meant to say was, how well do you know Jewish cities from 1939? There is a reason for my question–and no, it does not involve taking a quiz on MJL (but feel free to by clicking on the image to your left!). Instead, it involves everyone’s favorite quiz website, Sporcle.
Today, Sporcle’s featured quiz on their homepage asks you to name the top 52 cities in the world in terms of Jewish population in 1939. When I saw the quiz, I thought I would ace it. I was incredibly wrong.
I scored a lowly 25 on 52. That’s less than 50%! I major in history and Jewish studies! What’s wrong with me?
What’s wrong with me is that it is so overwhelming to think about every city in the entire world that might have had a large Jewish population in the 1930s. You try to think of what cities in the United States had major Jewish communities all the while trying to remember obscure Eastern European cities. All but impossible I say.
Alright, now it’s on you. This quiz is super hard and you only have 10 minutes to get all 52. I wish you luck and feel free to tell me how you did.
