Why We Need Passion-Based Learning in Jewish Education

How do we “teach a child according to his/her way”? Using the three P’s, Tikvah Wiener demonstrates how she is innovating learning through purpose, play, and passion. Wiener argues for a Jewish education that shifts its focus from the classroom and the confines of the desk, toward students’ genuine interests, an educational approach already present in our tradition to teach children according to their own way.

Tikvah Wiener is co-Founder and Director of the I.D.E.A. Schools Network, which helps Jewish and independent schools implement project-based learning (PBL). Tikvah is also Chief Academic Officer at Magen David Yeshivah High School in Brooklyn, NY, where she oversees General Studies and implements PBL across the curriculum. Tikvah loves helping students find and use their passions to make learning meaningful, relevant, and fun. She lives in Teaneck, NJ, with her husband and children.
