Jewish Fur Traders and Their Native Wives

Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University

This talk will examine stories of Jewish fur traders in North America and their Native wives from the Colonial Period through the 19th Century. Some of these are real couples, like Jacob Franks and Thérèse de Gère dit Larose and others are myths, like Joseph Sondhiemer and his Native wife. The Siegal Lifelong Learning Center will unpack why these myths exist, which are true, and which are false.
