Between Worlds: The Context of the Talmud
Hosted By: The National Library of Israel (NLI)
The Babylonian Talmud is so identifiably Jewish, that the ancient context in which it was created is often overlooked.
That context consisted of multiple, intersecting worlds – including the political realities of the Persian Sasanian Empire, the religious diversity of neighboring communities, including Zoroastrians and Syriac Christians, as well as various forms of non-rabbinic Judaism.
