Day of Learning: The Dangers of Maimonides

Hosted By: Haberman Institute

Join us online for two 90-minute sessions with Dr. Joel Hecker on topics related to the Maimonidean Controversies that erupted in medieval Europe.

There is no figure in the history of Jewish thought who has exerted greater influence than Maimonides (the Rambam). His long shadow generated controversies in his own lifetime (1135-1204) and after his death, with his philosophical magnum opus, The Guide of the Perplexed, still unofficially excluded from traditional yeshiva curricula. Our Day of Learning will offer a brief overview of the most controversial planks and approaches of this towering figure’s thought, and how he revolutionized Jewish theology forever.
