Gender and Jewish Thought
Hosted By: Hadar
How has gender impacted and shaped Jewish thought? In this class we’ll look both at discussions about the intersection of Judaism and gender as well as the way that gendered themes appear in the larger Jewish philosophical tradition. We’ll meet thinkers ranging from the Rambam, to Levinas, to Judith Plaskow and Tamar Ross, with an eye towards exploring how Jewish philosophy can help enrich conversations around Torah and gender. We’ll also consider how to relate to parts of the Jewish philosophical tradition that present challenges for building a more egalitarian approach to Jewish life.
