Virtual Walking Tour: The Jewish Community of Vienna

Hosted By: The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust

Join the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Our Travel Circle as travelers virtually explore the ninth district of Vienna – Alsergrund- which had the highest percentage of Jewish residents in the city. Alsergrund became a home for middle-class and professional Jews, and a high percentage of Jewish doctors, lawyers, and businessmen made their homes there. The district was also a place where some went specifically to assimilate further into non-Jewish Austrian society and culture. Alsergrund is associated with many notable names of Viennese art and science, and we will see what the former residence and office of Sigmund Freud has become. Tourists will also visit Vienna’s oldest preserved Jewish cemetery, with an incredible story. Come hear this story and more from the tour guide, Claudia.
