Book of Daniel: Close to God and Close to Power
Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)
A sage, a visionary, an interpreter of dreams, a dreamer himself and perhaps a prophet, Daniel remains an enigma.
Against the background of the Babylonian exile, we will chart the life of Daniel; uprooted from his homeland as a child, propelled to the highest echelons of power only to be cast into the lions’ den.
We will explore his friendship with Hananya, Mishael and Azarya and the challenges he faced as a Jew in the court of the destroyer of the First Temple, Nebuchadnezzar. Present day issues of identity, assimilation and antisemitism are all part of Daniel’s story, as are the visions, the attempts to delve into the hidden secrets of the end of days, redemption and resurrection.
