Virtual Walking Tour: Florence, Italy

Hosted By: The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust

The Jewish presence in Florence dates to at least 1437, when the Florentine Republic called upon a group of resident Jews to restructure their banks to take over the indispensable function of lending money, thereby saving Christian bankers – and their souls – from the damning sin of usury. On this live virtual tour, tourists will walk the streets that date back to Roman times. See the original site of the very first Jewish Temple and the Piazza della Repubblica, the former location of the now-destroyed ghetto. Finally, see the crowning glory of the city’s Jewish community: the Grand Synagogue, hailed as one of the most beautiful in Europe.
