Perfect Pitch: Music’s Role in Jewish History
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
The Jewish people have a rich history of music playing a vital role in our celebrations, prayers, the way we communicate with one another, and even our mourning rituals. In this 4-week course taught by Melton-favorite Rabbi Johnny Solomon, participants will learn about song and music throughout different historical periods, in the Synagogue, in the Jewish homes, and in other Jewish communal settings. Throughout this series we will ask significant questions such as: What makes Jewish music Jewish? What role does music play in times of joy and sorrow? How can we harness the power of music to bring greater joy and unity to the Jewish people and to the world? Through the exploration of our musical past, you will gain new insights into the shaping of Jewish culture today.
