The Deck of Esther: The New Venice Megillah with Jacqueline Nichols
Join the Community Scholar Program live from London, England and Beit Venezia in Venice, a focal point of Jewish life, arts and culture in Italy, comes an extraordinary new visual art commission, The Deck of Esther. This artist project tells the story of Purim and the Jewish affinity with card games and gambling. The cards in the deck are a Book of Esther, shuffled with the words removed, reimagining the story and characters as playing cards, endlessly shuffling and gambling their way through the story. Jacqueline Nicholls, the lead artist for this project, will share the creative process and challenges of interpreting this ancient text.
