Judaism & Civil Rights

Hosted By: Am Haskalah

With Rabbi Steve Nathan.

In Deuteronomy, we are commanded tzedek tzedek tirdof – justice, justice you shall pursue – and ever since then we have been trying to make the world a better place for everyone. This includes being active participants in the American Civil Rights Movement and seeking Justice for All up until this day. In this class, study some of the classic texts that helped to inform Martin Luther King and Abraham Joshua Heschel, as well as so many others. Additionally, you will look at contemporary texts to explore how we can each do our best to fulfill the essential commandment of bringing justice and freedom to everyone in our world.
