The Master Storyteller: Isaac Bashevis Singer
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
Isaac Bashevis Singer, a Nobel laureate and one of the 20th century’s most significant writers, is known for his unique voice that bridged diverse aspects of the Jewish world. Raised in Torah-observant communities in Poland, Singer combined a religious spirit with secular enthusiasm and was a European Yiddish speaker who significantly impacted the American literary scene. In this four-part program led by Dr. Shana Mauer, known for the “Emma Lazarus: Beyond the Statue of Liberty” course, participants will explore Singer’s paradoxical nature, imaginative prowess, and exceptional storytelling ability.
