The Miraculous San Francisco Discovery of Ary Arkady Lochakov’s Lost Art

Hosted By: The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art

In May 2022, a remarkable discovery of 48 abandoned artworks, 38 signed by Jewish artist Ary Arkady Lochakov, was made by maintenance staff in a waterside park. Lochakov, a member of the École de Paris and featured in Hersh Fenster’s book “Our Martyred Artists,” died in 1941. This event is part of the online series “Flight or Fight. Stories of Artists Under Repression” at The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art, and includes insights from Julie Zigoris, an Arts & Culture Reporter who has extensively researched Lochakov’s story and history.
