Professor Marc Michael Epstein will lead a discussion on the material culture of Jewish communities, exploring architecture, furnishings, clothing, and artifacts that define Jewish spaces and daily life through various eras. The session will examine how to analyze this vast array of material to better understand past Jewish lives and their relevance today. It will also focus on what Jewish homes, as depicted in art, reveal about historical Jewish life and the search for “lost treasures” from civilizations now gone.
