The Ben Zakkai Institute will host a series exploring rabbinic literature on quality of life and Jewish mourning practices, particularly when someone decides to end their life. The sessions will examine Talmudic accounts, classic and modern rabbinic literature, and current thinking about moral distress, applying these concepts to Chevrah Kadisha (the Jewish burial society) work and critical incident debriefing. Discussions will also cover restrictions on Jewish mourning practices, the use of medical aid in dying, and how to bring comfort to mourners.
