Jews of Burma: The Tribe That Vanished

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher will host a talk on the history of the Burmese Jewish community, a once-flourishing group that quickly ceased to exist. The discussion will explore the community’s inner rifts, external threats, and the possibility of a revival of Jewish life in Burma. Photojournalist Misha Gulko will present his photographs documenting the remnants of Jewish presence in Burma today and the vanishing traces of its past.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
