The Jews of Cuba: Journeys, Stories, Poems

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher will host a talk by Ruth Behar, offering a broad perspective on the Jews of Cuba through historical scholarship, ethnography, and literary and artistic visions. The presentation will examine the formation of the first Jewish communities in the early twentieth century, their rise and fall after the Cuban Revolution, and the revitalization of Jewish life since the 1990s. The discussion will also explore the nostalgia felt by Jewish Cubans who left the island but never forgot their beloved Cuba.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
