New Perspectives on European Jewish History

Hosted By: YIVO

YIVO will host a panel discussion on “A Jew in the Street: New Perspectives on European Jewish History,” a volume that brings together original scholarship by 17 historians inspired by Michael Stanislawski’s pioneering research. The essays cover a range of topics in modern European Jewish history, including Jewish participation in the 1848 revolutions, early 20th-century Zionist and non-Zionist dynamics, and the origins of a charm against the evil eye. The panel, featuring editors Nancy Sinkoff, Jonathan Karp, James Loeffler, and Howard Lupovitch, will explore how these works challenge ideological clichés and offer new insights into the complex experiences of European Jews from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
