‘The Catskills’—Film Screening and Director Talk

Hosted By: Haberman Institute

The Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies will host an online discussion with film director Lex Gillepsie and Dr. Lauren Strauss, Senior Professorial Lecturer at American University, following a screening of the new feature-length documentary “The Catskills.” The film explores the rise and fall of the Borscht Belt through lost-and-found archival footage and stories from stand-up comedians, former waiters, entertainers, and dance instructors. Register to watch the film at home and learn about the mountain getaway that became a refuge for Jewish immigrants and a lavish playground for affluent Jewish families.
