Beyond Koufax and Raisman: How Jewish Athletes Overcame Obstacles and Dealt with Identity Challenges in American Sports History

Hosted By: My Jewish Learning

Throughout American history, Jews’ inclusion in or exclusion from the world of sports has been a gauge of their status and progress in the United States. Along the way, Jewish athletes have overcome pernicious obstacles and stereotypes even as their quests for victories have challenged their Jewish identities.

In this unique new online course, join renowned Yeshiva University Prof. Jeffrey Gurock, a top expert on Jewish sports history, as he explores how outstanding Jewish athletes faced and battled against oppositions in so many historical arenas. He will also highlight how sports have been a force in the lives of countless American Jewish men and women who never aspired to make it to the Olympics.

Each of the four class sessions (2/6, 2/13, 2/20, and 2/27) will be one hour long from 8:00-9:00 p.m., on Zoom, and all registrants will receive recordings of each class that won’t expire.
