Celebrate Tu Bishvat With My Jewish Learning

Tu Bishvat, the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, is the Jewish new year of the trees. Since the 17th century, it has been customary among some Jews to mark this occasion with a seder.

Join My Jewish Learning’s Chodesh Circle community and Rabbi SB Gershuny for an online Tu Bishvat seder on Feb. 13, 2025 at 7 pm Eastern / 4 pm Pacific. Together we will journey through the four worlds of divine creation, honoring the place of trees in our tradition and stimulating our own creative flow for the seasons to come.

What you will need:

  • Red wine (or grape juice) and white wine (or grape juice). You will need enough for two small cups of each color.
  • A tree-related fragrance. This could be a scented candle (with a fragrance such as cedar, amber, fir or sandalwood); a bark that can be burnt (like palo santo); hard spices (such as cinnamon or nutmeg); or fresh branches or fruits with a noticeable smell.
  • At least one fruit that can be eaten in its entirety, such as figs, apples, pears or tangerines. You can use fresh or dried.
  • At least one fruit with a hard stone, such as olives, dates, stone fruit or mangoes. You can use fresh or dried.
  • Nuts or fruit that have a hard shell, such as pistachio, walnut, coconut or pomegranate.
  • A journal or paper and pen.

Your $18 ticket also includes one month of access to Chodesh Circle, an exciting new community of learners and seekers exploring kabbalistic teachings about the cycles of the Hebrew calendar. Each month, Chodesh Circle members gather twice to explore Jewish mystical teachings about the power of the Hebrew months to help with a particular area of healing in our lives. Chodesh Circle members receive everything they need to attune their lives to the wisdom of these sacred cycles and access their transformative power.
