Q07
How would you like to improve yourself, your life, next year? Any advice you received that could help?
Jewish teaching advocates strongly that proper care be taken for the health of mind and body, since life is God’s precious gift. The Talmud forbids a scholar to reside in a town in which there is no physician to care for the health of its citizens. And many of the greatest Jewish sages were deeply tuned in to the needs of their bodies and minds–Maimonides was a physician, and some of the founders of modern psychology were Jewish.
Yes, the New Year is a time to work on our relationships with other people, and with the Divine. But it’s a time to work on ourselves as well.
