Funding Haredi Education

The Knesset has passed a law saying that Haredi high schools can legally get funding without teaching the core curriculum, meaning that they will not be obliged to teach math, English and civics. Previously these schools, which do not teach non-religious subjects at all, had been getting the money in violation of the law. Whether this will survive the High Court is another matter. (Ha’aretz)

Dan Ben-David excoriates this decision. On the other hand, Evelyn Gordon is willing to tolerate Haredi education, but the majority should not be obliged to fund it. But Hillel Fendel says that the Haredi students test better than average.
