Jokes about Al-Qaeda usually aren’t funny. So when the media covers a personal piece about the terrorist organization, you know that something quirky has to be up.
Get this story. Ever heard of Azzam al-Amriki? How about Adam Gadahn? How about Adam Pearlman? Sound more familiar? Well, they are all the same person.
Adam Pearlman grew up in Southern California. His parents were hippies and raised Adam on a farm. His father, changed his last name to Gadahn, after Gideon from the Bible.
Eventually, Adam got involved in Muslim circles, converted, became more and more radical, yada yada yada. Next thing you know, Adam moves to Pakistan and becomes the English spokesperson for Al Qaeda! I guess it can happen to the best of us.
Adam is in the news again this week. In a video rant posted on an Islamic website, he goes on and on about Israel and Gaza and blah, blah, blah. BUT, he does talk about one very interesting detail of his life. His grandfather was a Zionist. In fact, his grandfather gave him books by Bibi Netanyahu to try to persuade him back to Zionism. I’m guessing it didn’t work.
Adam wasn’t lying either. His grandfather, Carl Pearlman, wasn’t some uninvolved Jew. The guy was the first chairman of his local Bonds for Israel chapter and was on the Board of Directors for the Anti-Defamation League.
I think it is safe to say that if Carl were alive today, he wouldn’t necessarily be proud of his grandson.
