When I first heard about Twitter, I thought it was going to be a passing fad. Having already had Facebook, I saw Twitter as Facebook updates, but with no Facebook. In other words, it sounded like a much worse version of Facebook. Why would I use that?
I guess I was wrong though. People LOVE Twitter. Besides the updates, I didn’t appreciate how much people enjoy peeping into the lives of others. Ashton Kutcher, star of one of my favorite films, “Dude, Where’s My Car?,” has (as of 11:10 AM), 2,873,765 followers! That’s a full 1.1 Million more than Barack Obama. It is an absurd amount of followers for a guy who only does cheesy digital camera commercials.
But perhaps my new “favorite” Twitter account is TheKotel. It’s pretty self-explanitory. If you aren’t close to the Western Wall, but want to submit a prayer, just tweet @TheKotel and they will do it for you! Crazy. Absolutely crazy.
Feel free to use @TheKotel for all your praying needs. I don’t need it though. You see, the MyJewishLearning offices have beautiful brick walls. Whenever, we have an afternoon Mincha service (everyone’s invited), I submit a written prayer into our walls. I think it gets the job done. God is everywhere, right?
I’d tell you that you can submit your prayers to me to put up in the MJL walls, but I’d probably get in trouble.
Mincha
Pronounced: MINN-khah, Origin: Hebrew, the afternoon prayer service. According to traditional interpretation of Jewish law, men are commanded to pray three times a day.
