In the 1970s, Shaun Tomson was one of the best professional surfers in the world, racking up 19 professional titles during his career — a record at the time. But after the sudden death of his teenage son Matthew, Tomson abruptly switched gears. Finding strength in his spiritual beliefs, he began teaching kids about finding meaning and purpose in their lives by always looking forward, a vision inspired by the last words Matthew ever spoke to him: “The light shines ahead.”
