Can We Reconcile the Concepts of Oneness and Chosenness?
Hosted By: Lake Erie Institute / Sacred Earth Judaism
By different routes, mystics and physicists have arrived at the same destination, which is that we are all individualized expressions of a unified whole. In our Jewish mystical tradition, yechida – oneness – is the highest level of consciousness. Yet we Jews also see ourselves as the Chosen People specially selected to carry out the requirements of the Covenant. How do we reconcile these two concepts: oneness and chosenness? Are they fundamentally at odds or is there a way to understand them side by side?
