Community Free Day for ‘Chagall’s Dead Souls’ Exhibit

Hosted By: Jewish Museum Milwaukee

Jewish Museum Milwaukee will host a community day for Milwaukee County residents to visit “Chagall’s Dead Souls: A Satirical Account of Imperialist Russia” for free. Nikolai Gogol, a Ukrainian-born humorist, dramatist, and novelist, significantly influenced Russian literature, while Marc Chagall is considered one of the greatest Jewish painters. This exhibit combines Gogol’s satirical words with Chagall’s surrealist imagery, bringing to life the despicable protagonist of “Dead Souls,” a major 19th-century novel and a devastating satire on social hypocrisy.
