Conflicting Visions of Israel

Hosted By: The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University

When the State of Israel was established in 1948, its founders envisioned a democratic, pluralistic society that would develop “for the benefit of all its inhabitants.” Yet, as with many visions, there is always a gap between the dream and reality. This course reviews the various visions that have shaped Israel’s socioeconomic, religious and political reality, as well as the ongoing debate over the visions that conflict with one another.
