Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night: The Death of Moses in the Torah and the Midrash

Hosted By: Shalom Hartman Institute, Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS)

As part of the Shalom Hartman Institute’s “A Day of Learning for Our Hostages,” this session will explore two distinct accounts of Moses’ death: the calm acceptance in Deuteronomy and the dramatic confrontation in the Midrash on Proverbs. The discussion will examine these narratives through the lens of Elizabeth Kübler-Ross’ five stages of grief, outlined in her book “On Death and Dying.” The session is dedicated to the memory of Hersh Goldberg Polin z”l.
