Howard Mansfield discusses his book, “I Will Tell No War Stories: What Our Fathers Left Unsaid About World War II,” in conversation with Scott Mansfield. The book explores the hidden experiences of Howard’s father, Pincus Mansfield, as a tail gunner on B-24 bombers and the unspoken rule among veterans to not talk about their war experiences. The discovery of Pincus’s diary of bombing missions led Howard to uncover and confront the forgotten history of his father’s wartime experiences and the broader societal tendency to hide the horrors of war.
