Jewcology, Israel, and Tu B’Shvat
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
How did a holiday that originated in Temple times wind up inspiring Jewcology (Jewish environmentalism)? Tu B’Shvat has developed alongside the changing needs and focus of the Jewish people. Whereas the holiday has its origins in the biblical tax code, it has changed over time incorporating mystical, Zionist, and environmental ideas. In this one-hour course with expert Melton teacher Rabbi Mark Cohn, we will travel through the various eras to uncover how Tu B’Shvat may be the most evolved holiday on the Jewish calendar.
