Jews and Latin Music

Join Grammy-nominated musician and music historian Ben Lapidus, PhD for a tour through the Jewish relationship to and influences in Latin music. This three-week class beginning on February 3 will cover:

Professor Lapidus has performed and recorded music throughout the world and has released eight albums under his name. He was the 2013 winner of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, culminating in his book, “New York and the International Sound of Latin Music, 1940-1990.” He has taught popular music of the Caribbean, Latin music in New York, music theory, guitar, and world music at the New School University, Queens College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY where he is currently an associate professor of music and chair of the Art and Music department.
This class is part of NightShul, the evening adult education program of East Midwood Jewish Center, Brooklyn, and is open to all.
