Mazel: Yiddish Classics Reimagined

Hosted By: The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy (LESJC)

What happens when a cantor from a Long Island shul and a 10-time Grammy-winning vocalist extraordinaire from Brooklyn get linked by a Grammy-nominated, Philadelphia-born Italian jazz pianist with a love of Yiddish music? If you’d like to know, then please join us for a very special program with Cantor Daniel Kramer, pianist John Di Martino, and The Manhattan Transfer’s Janis Siegel, as they discuss how it all started and what shenanigans ensued! Stories will be told, songs will be shared, album artwork and photos from the LES will be shown, and questions will be taken. Don’t miss the unique opportunity to hear from this fascinating combination of musicians as they reinterpret the Yiddish songbook through jazz and Latin lenses.

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy (LESJC)

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy (LESJC) is an educational non-profit, created in 1998, to preserve and support the Lower East Side’s community of living synagogues and other historic structures, and to raise public awareness of the neighborhoods distinct cultural identity. As the birthplace of American Jewish civilization, and the most iconic immigrant neighborhood in America, we share this history by taking people on walking tours which enter sacred sites, where you learn how past generations came here, lived and worshiped. Learn more about LESJC here.
