Modern Jewish Sounds Concert: Daniel Kahn
Hosted By: The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust
Detroit-born, Berlin-based troubadour Daniel Kahn’s music mixes Yiddish, English, Russian, and German with a distinctly punk and folk flavor. The Museum’s Modern Jewish Sounds concert series welcomes Kahn to the stage along with his dear friends Jake Shulman-Ment, Sarah Gordon, Lorin Sklamberg, and other comrades for an intimate evening of new and old songs that cross the borders of languages, cultures, generations, and worlds. Drawing on the repertoire of his cult cabaret band the Painted Bird as well as his most recent solo album word beggar, his music also engages with such bards as Gebertig, Okudzhava, Dylan, and Cohen. Experience Daniel Kahn’s return to the US with his bag full of broken ballads, crooked klezmer, prison laments, revolutionary hymns, and apocalyptic blues.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. NOTE: This program is a live-only event and will not be recorded.
