Moving Heaven and Earth: A Conversation With James McBride
Hosted By: The New York Jewish Week, UJA-Federation of New York
Join UJA and the New York Jewish Week for an evening with James McBride. A master storyteller, his spectacular memoir, The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to his White Mother, has sold millions of copies.
His new novel, The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, is set in a small working-class Pennsylvania town in the 1930s, where a Jewish woman runs a grocery store that extends credit and friendship to all. A cinematic portrait of a Jewish immigrant community and its uneasy neighbors, the novel is beautifully written, filled with compassion, suspense, and humor.
McBride will be speaking with award-winning journalist Sandee Brawarsky.
