My Life as a Jew
Hosted By: YIVO
YIVO will host a discussion with Michael Gawenda about his new autobiography, “My Life as a Jew,” led by Andrew Silow-Carroll, editor at large of the New York Jewish Week. Gawenda, born in a displaced persons’ camp after the Holocaust, grew up in Melbourne and developed a secular Jewish identity influenced by Yiddish language and culture. He went on to become a prominent journalist and served as the editor-in-chief of The Age, where he examined his Jewish identity and the critiques of Israel he encountered in his professional life.
