This series of classes, based on Rabbi Lisa’s rabbinic thesis, delves into the historical, theological, and liturgical differences among Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist Jewish Movements as reflected in their respective prayerbooks. The specific sessions will cover:
Oct. 16 – The history of how the Movements developed
Oct. 23 – How worship evolved from the Temple rite to what exists in today’s synagogue
Oct. 30 – The development of liturgy by each Movement to reflect its theology; the evolution of each Movement’s prayerbooks
Nov. 6 – A comparison of some specific prayers across the Movements
