Hosted By: The New York Jewish Week, UJA-Federation of New York

Join the New York Jewish Week in partnership with UJA-Federation New York for the next event in our Folio literary series: a discussion with distinguished journalist Richard Bernstein about his probing new biography of Al Jolson, in conversation with award-winning journalist Sandee Brawarsky.
In his new book, “Only in America,” Richard Bernstein takes a deep look into Al Jolson’s life story as well as the private history behind the 1927 film, The Jazz Singer, a national sensation that was groundbreaking for its time.
Richard Bernstein, who grew up on a chicken farm in a small town in Connecticut, spent 14 years as a foreign correspondent for Time magazine and The New York Times, reporting from more than two dozen countries, with full-time postings including Hong Kong, Beijing, Paris and Berlin. He also served as national cultural correspondent for The Times, and is the author of ten books.
Sandee Brawarsky, an award-winning journalist and editor, served for many years as Culture Editor of The New York Jewish Week. She is the author of several books, most recently 212 Views of Central Park: Experiencing New York’s Jewel From Every Angle.
