Qesher Book Club: ‘The Gallery of Beauties’

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher Book Club will host a discussion on “The Gallery of Beauties,” a historical novel set in Venice, 1612, where a courtesan and a Talmudic scholar form an unexpected relationship after posing for a “Gallery of Beauties.” The book was nominated for an Agatha for Best First Novel and a Silver Falchion for Best Historical Novel, and it has two sequels: “The Courtesan’s Secret,” about a “converso” courtesan learning about Jewish life in the Venice Ghetto, and “The Courtesan’s Pirate,” which follows Jews seeking religious freedom in the New World.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
