Responses to the War in Israel
Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)
Israel was forever changed on 7 October. How has it responded? Three popular Israeli LSJS educators will survey the impact of the war on Israeli society, Jewish law and philosophy.
Rabbi Alex Israel will reflect on how, instead of despairing, Israeli society rose to the moment in remarkable ways. Drawing on Tanach and modern Jewish thinkers, he will explore the spiritual dimension of this phenomenon and how it expresses the deep social contract of the Jewish people that underpins the existence of the State of Israel.
Rabbi Aviad Tabory will examine halachic responses to the war, including how the morale and welfare of soldiers have been given more prominence in rulings given by Israel’s leading rabbis.
Dr Tanya White will offer a philosophical response, discussing how Israelis have viewed the challenges of evil and its relationship with the world, and what it means for the Jewish future.
