Rosh Hashanah Melodies from Morocco and Gibraltar

Hosted By: My Jewish Learning

Monday, September 19 at 12 p.m. ET

The evening services of Rosh Hashanah begin with two beautiful piyyutim (liturgical poems) in Sephardic liturgies: on the first night, Aḥot Ḳetanah, and on the second, Ḥon Taḥon. Isaac Montagu will teach a melody for each piyyut, while playing on a Moroccan ’ud. Together, we’ll also explore the history of Spanish-Moroccan traditions in this participatory session.

Sunday, October 2nd at 12 p.m. ET

Feel empowered to sing Sephardi Nusach on YK! Join Laura Elkeslassy for this workshop focusing on Moroccan melodies used for Yom Kippur services. Elkeslassy will walk you through different songs used for this special and sacred time in the lead-up to the holiday. Learn select piyyutim and texts structured around call and response such as Lecha Eli Teshukati, Kol Nidre, Anna Bekoreinu, and more.
