Since 1997, David Henkin has been on the faculty at U.C. Berkeley, where he teaches mostly about society and culture in nineteenth-century America. His previous books include City Reading (1998), The Postal Age (2006), and (with Rebecca McLennan) Becoming America (2014, 2021). He is an active participant in San Francisco’s Mission Minyan community, which he co-founded in 2003. He says the psalm of the (week)day religiously.
