The Marx Brothers and Jewish Identity

Hosted By: Jewish Study Center

The Jewish Study Center will host a panel of experts, organized by Danny Fingeroth and including Noah Diamond and Henry Sapoznik, to discuss the Marx Brothers’ complicated relationship to their Jewishness. While their films feature only a few overt Jewish references, one would be hard-pressed to find a comedy team with more Jewish subtext than Groucho, Chico, Harpo, and sometimes Zeppo. The panel will explore how their upbringing and cultural background shaped their humor and legacy.
