The Story of Our Brain: With Iddo Gefen and Mayim Bialik
Hosted By: The New York Jewish Week, UJA-Federation of New York

Join the New York Jewish Week in partnership with UJA-Federation New York for the next event in our Folio literary series: actress and neuroscientist Dr. Mayim Bialik and award-winning author Iddo Gefen explore the fascinating intersection of neuroscience and storytelling—following the release of Gefen’s new book, Mrs. Lilienblum’s Cloud Factory.
As a neuroscientist and an author, Iddo Gefen explores the deep connections between science and art. Gefen and Mayim Bialik will share their personal journeys of navigating both worlds—how their backgrounds in neuroscience have shaped their creative paths, how storytelling and performance influence our understanding of the brain and human behavior, and how science and art continually inform and enrich each other.
Between her stints as beloved TV characters Blossom and Amy Farrah Fowler (on “The Big Bang Theory”), Bialik earned a PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA. She also hosted “Jeopardy!” for two seasons and now hosts a popular mental health podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, with more than 60 million downloads.
Gefen’s first book, Jerusalem Beach, won the 2023 Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature, and one of its stories is currently being adapted into a film by Ryan Gosling’s production company, with Charlie Kaufman writing the script. His upcoming novel, Mrs. Lilienblum’s Cloud Factory, is a comic family drama about ambition, science, and the ties that bind us.
