Virtual Tour of Jewish Shanghai

Hosted By: My Jewish Learning

Join My Jewish Learning for a look at the Jewish history and contemporary communities in Shanghai, China.

When it comes to Jewish history, Shanghai is probably best known for being a refuge for tens of thousands of Jews who fled Nazi Germany. But the sprawling Chinese metropolis actually has a history with Jews that goes all the way back to the 10th century.

And there may only be about 1,500 Jews left in a population of about 25 million, but multiple synagogues and other landmarks still tell a remarkable story of Jewish resilience and cross-cultural exchange.

Join Yael Farjun, an Israeli who has been living in Shanghai since 2010, as she shares the past, present and future of China’s Jewish history through the lens of one of its largest cities.
